| EVALUATION |
Since the course was imparted while it was being developed there was no time for any formal evaluation.
During the semester I kept close contact with the instructor and some of the students to hear what they were saying of the course design. One student mentioned she felt the work load was to heavy. The next time I got together with the instructor, I tried to make sure the assignments were properly spread out.
|
| At the end of the course I created the following questionnaire and ask the students to answer it. |
- Was this the first online course you have ever taken?
- Do you consider it a positive or a negative experience?
- What did you enjoy most from taking this course in an online format?
- What did you dislike the most?
- If you had the opportunity to take this course all over again, what would you change in yourself to make this a more successful experience?
- What would you change of the course design to make it more rewarding?
- Do you think the activities done, such as the film critiques, break out rooms, discussion board, etc, were appropriate and effective for an online setting?
- Which of these did you find more appropriate for an online setting?
- What aspects do you believe help you reflect more about the content..
- What aspect of the course...Wimba, discussion board, reflection papers..etc. help you communicate more with others...
- What technical tool do you consider..the most valuable.... (BlackBoard, telephone, Wimba?)
Results:
Student A
- NO
- POSITIVE EXPERIENCE
- STUDENTS are able to have a virtual setting
- Communication - there is too much static and are not able to hear everyone clearly. Also if the class is more than 3 or 4 students it is more difficult to keep a clear communication because everyone wants to speak at the same time.
- Have smaller group discussion.
- Nothing
- YES
- breakout rooms
- No answer
- discussion board
- All of them
Student B
- Yes
- thought it was a positive experience because it was something new to me.
- That I was able to do it here at home where I could be comfortable, plus the power points were helpful.
- The negativity of one classmate. Sorry I know that might sound harsh, but everything else ran smoothly.
- I would try to get ahead of the reading and try to be more prepared for the questions being asked.
- Nothing!
- Yes I do, because it helped me to get a better understanding of the chapters and the feedback of others.
- The discussion questions.
- Everything!
- I believe the discussion questions because I was able to get feedback and to learn what others were thinking about or how they worked in their classrooms.
- I have never used blackboard, but I thought it was a little confusing, but with practice I should be fine. Wimba was very exciting and I enjoyed the class. I will sign up for future courses on wimba if offered.
Student C
- This course was the first online course I had ever taken.
- I consider this experience a positive one because I learned new ways of communicating in a class setting. The experience made me gain confidence for future online courses. I did had a hard time getting accustomed to the format of the class, due to its lack of face-to-face interaction with the professor and students, but after the third class I got used to it.
- From the format of the online course, I enjoyed being able to instantly share information with the class such as PowerPoint presentations, pictures, and ideas.
- The online format is very different to a regular class. At first, I disliked the fact that I experienced technical difficulties and wasn’t able to hear the class discussion on time. I disliked the fact that my name appeared on Wimba as if I was successfully connected, although my connection was terrible.
- Something that I would change in myself to make from the online course a more successful experience is my class participation. At the beginning of the course, I felt somewhat intimidated by the new format of the course and its demands. If I would change something it would definitely be my class participation during class discussions.
- To me, the course design was rewarding the way it was. This is the first online course I take so I am not aware of other techniques used to design these courses. Maybe in the future, when I take other online courses, I will be able to critique the design of such a course.
- For me, the activities chosen for this course were appropriate and effective for an online setting.
- I found the break out rooms most effective because it gave the class more interaction.

- ---
- Wimba is the most valuable technical tool that I have used in a classroom communication setting. I believe Wimba is a powerful tool because students work together to share new ideas and knowledge through the use of verbal and written communication
