TIMELINE

One month before the course begins

1. Collect the course material (articles that will be used, films that will be shown,  information that will be made available to students)

2. Create the course calendar – this will tell you the type of activities that will be accomplished by the students during the semester and it will in turn help you create the course menu.

3. While doing the course calendar, the instructor will tell you what she wants to accomplish with each activity.  In this step, you can suggest activities effective in an online setting.

For example:

  • Structuring the discussion questions so they invite students to share their experiences and opinions
  • Finding ways to make the students participate on the Wimba sessions
  • Finding activities that invite the students to share their results afterwards
  • Develop hands on activities and then make the students share their experiences, for example for this class visit a  particular ece center and share their experience, share the ece theories the teacher applies in the classroom.

4. Modify the course syllabus to reflect the changes the calendar could have made to it.

5. Create the discussions on discussion board

6. Create the quizzes or exams

7. Create WebPages with all the information

8. Upload information to BlackBoard

9. Create Wimba classroom

10. Set up for break out rooms if the instructor is using them (make sure you do this before the first Wimba session)

11. Make BlackBoard, Wimba, and Dreamweaver tutorials available to the instructor.

During the First Weeks of the Course

    1. Be available to be present with instructor at least the first 5 times she lectures using Wimba so that you can provide support for any technical difficulties the instructor or the students might experience during the sessions.

    2. Read the calendar every week so that you know what the students are doing and make sure all material is available for them.

During the entire semester and especiall towards the end
1. Apply an online survey to the students to assess the quality and effectivenes of the instruction.
2. Maintain constant communication with the instructor to get a feel of how things are progressing and make the necessary changes so that the instruction is more effective and the course expectations are met.
3. Make brief informal surveys with the students during the semester to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the instruction. Sometimes its just very small things that need to get modified for the instruction to be more effective and it is easier to catch these by talking with the actual students.
